What is a fan coil?
The fan coil is one of the types of air conditioning systems that are installed in various commercial, industrial and residential spaces to be responsible for air conditioning. There are no restrictions for installing fan coils and all types of spaces with any use such as homes, factories, medical, educational spaces and any other type of space can use fan coils to control their environmental conditions.
This control of environmental conditions means controlling and regulating temperature and humidity, as well as air purification and purification. However, in any situation and for any place, there is a need to freshen the air, create airflow, maintain or eliminate air humidity, or at least maintain the temperature balance. The fan coil can do this as it is a common example of an air conditioning system.
Fan coils are a more economical option due to their simple structure and limited parts that make up the larger fan coil assembly. The main temperature control factor on the fan coils are the thermostats and the on / off buttons. The simple structure of this type of air conditioning system allows them to be installed in various spaces with different angles such as the floor, on cabinets, inside walls and ceilings or even inside walls and false ceilings.
How to choose the right fan coil and on what basis?
The fan coil is selected based on the heating and cooling needs, the amount of space considered and the installation location. But in addition to the external criteria that relate to the environment itself, the fan coil itself also has criteria for selection. For example, the capacity, power of the moto and its appearance can also be effective in buying a fan coil. Fan coil capacity refers to its ability to meet the needs of large buildings. The fan coil capacity is calculated based on the number of aeration cubes in minutes.
But in addition to these cases, one of the most important categories of fan coils goes back to its location. In fact, the air conditioning system and the location of the facility determine what type of fan coil to choose and where to place it. In this regard, we introduce the types of fan coils in terms of location in the following.
What is a ceiling fan coil?
In general, it can be said that the fan coil is installed in both horizontal and vertical forms. The ceiling fan coil is one of the types of fan coils that are installed vertically. A ceiling fan coil can be installed on a normal or false ceiling at work or at work. The ceiling fan coil is practically placed inside the ceiling or in front of the wall and nothing is known about it except the grille. Suction in this type of fan coils is done from below or behind.
The ceiling fan coil is a simple example of a fan coil that performs the simplest and most basic fan coil work. The need for high air throw power is not possible with this type of fan coil.
What is a Cassette Fan Coil?
Cassette fan coils are also installed vertically. Unlike the ceiling fan coil that is installed in the forehead, this model is completely on the roof and is above the people. Appearance is important because the fan coil is located on the ceiling and is visible. In fact, the exterior of the fan coil protrudes from the ceiling and everyone can see it. For this reason, the outer part and the valve of these fan coils can be considered decorative. Of course, it should be said here that fan coil is one of the most luxurious models of fan coil, in which a lot of attention has been paid to its appearance, and all luxury centers and places that want a beautiful appearance use the same type. Fan coils create airflow from the ceiling and from top to bottom.
Two types of fan coils can be defined:
- The first type: single-sided fan coil
- Type 2: Four-sided fan coil
This means that the structure of the fan coil determines that the air flows in several directions and has inlets and outlets. One-way shorting fan coils are commonly used for more limited environments and four-way for larger and wider environments.
Factors that affect the quality of fan coil deficiency:
Because of the low fan coils inside the ceiling, their height is important to the installer. In fact, this height determines whether the defective fan coil can be installed inside a false ceiling.
Another problem is the low noise of the fan coil. This is due to the fact that the fan coil is installed in the middle of the ceiling and the loud noise of the fans when working can be annoying.
Another important factor in the quality of this type of fan coil is easy access to its thermostat settings, which is usually done remotely.
What is a Ducted Fan Coil?
Duct fan coils usually have more capacity than the two models, so they are more suitable for places with more traffic, or wider spaces. The duct fan coil can be considered as a more advanced form of ceiling fan coil. The installation of this fan coil is also done vertically.
Another name for this type of fan coil is duct fan coil, and this name is due to the fact that air enters and leaves through the channel. When it is not possible to enter the air from the same point, ducting is done and the fan coil provides air to space a little further away through these channels and enters the space in question.
What are the components of a fan coil?
If we want to see what parts the fan coil is made of, we can refer to its name. The fan coil is made of two main parts, the fan and the coil, and of course the filter, the motor and the thermostat.
The function of the fan in this set is the air circulation, which does this by rotating itself. The fan can be metallic or non-metallic.
The coil also consists of pipes or wires made of copper or aluminum that provide the passage of fluid or the main material of any nature inside the device. The number of pipes, which is a determining criterion in the type and quality of the fan coil, goes back to this part. The number of these pipes determines the capacity of hot and cold water simultaneously or individually. If the coil pipes are made of copper, it performs heat transfer better.
Filters act as a barrier to airborne particles and dust so as not to disrupt the overall performance of the system.
The motor that provides the main energy for movement within the system has its own structure and is considered a set and system alone.
A thermostat is a device that keeps the overall temperature of the fan coil constant and refers to the temperature for which it is set.
Finally, it should be noted that if we pay attention to the above components, we will find that the water source we are looking for heat transfer does not exist inside the fan coil itself, and this water with a specific and desired temperature, through the boiler, or package and cases It is prepared and sent to the fan coil by a pump. Therefore, it cannot be said that fan coils alone generate heat or cold.
