A cooling tower is one of the man-made phenomena that formed along with the world’s large and small industrial revolutions. Today, we are faced with different types of cooling towers, and today we want to examine 3 types. Depending on the variety of industrial uses, the shape and appearance of the cooling tower will change. If it is used for household purposes, it will undoubtedly be small and rectangular in size, and if it is intended for industrial use, it will have larger dimensions and sizes and will usually be conical in shape. It should be noted that the components of the cooling tower also change according to the same uses. Three types of cooling towers, open circuit, closed circuit and hybrid (adiabatic) are our topics of discussion. In the following, we will explain each of them separately.
Closed circle cooling tower
Among the types of cooling towers, Closed circle towers have an interesting schematic. In this tower, there is no direct connection to water inside the tower for cooling. So how does this towering work to cool water? Closed circle towers use special heat exchangers and piping to cool the heated water. It should be noted that the heat exchanger located in the Closed circle tower is a type of plate converter. As we know, the cooling tower is actually a heat exchanger that cools the heated water and returns it to the work cycle or home consumption for reuse. The Closed circle tower starts by injecting water from the pipes into itself. After a volume of water is introduced, the heat exchanger is activated and cools only part of the heated water and then adds to the rest of the available hot water, and this is done repeatedly until the water cools to It is completely done. The heat exchanger plate in this cooling tower is made of steel and water enters the different chambers in contact with it, and this division causes the cooled water to cool, and the cooled water is added to the main part of the body and added to the hot water. . This simple process of splitting by the heat exchanger plate is repeated over and over again until the water inside the body cools completely.
This type of cooling tower that does not allow water to come into contact with air is mostly used in the food industry! Using a heat exchanger to cool water is essential in this industry.
Hybrid or adiabatic type
This type of cooling tower is also known as a liquid cooler. The performance of this device is interesting in that all the work process is done naturally and uses almost no fuel. This is how the adiabatic cooling towers work. During the year, the space inside the tower is dry and cools the heated water only with the flow of air. But as soon as the air heats up in different seasons, it starts to produce steam and moisture, and in this way, the water inside its body cools down.
Open circuit cooling tower
Unlike the Closed circle, there is a direct relationship between air and water in this cooling tower. An open circuit tower is a heat exchanger that places hot water droplets and currents in the vicinity of air circulation inside the body, cooling the water for reuse. But there is a common ground between a Closed circle and a Closed circle cooling tower. This common point is that in an open circuit tower where the water is close to the air, not the entire volume of hot water but part of it is placed in the airflow path and when it cools down well, it is added to the hot water inside the body and to this The total temperature of the available water decreases. In the closed-circuit type, water travels to the top of the tower and the corresponding nozzle, which is a component of the cooling tower, distributes the water in the air path and the fan also helps to cool the water as quickly as possible.
